Among the first independent institutions in the nation dedicated to physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), Michigan Medicine is home to revolutionary discovery, advancement, dissemination and provision of evidence-based treatment and interventions for individuals with acute and chronic illness and disability.

Our multidisciplinary team of national experts in PM&R excels in the diagnosis and medical management of the consequences of disease, injury and congenital disorders. The department strives to help every individual maximize functional performance and achieve independence and community integration.

Our remarkable team works to increase function, decrease pain and disability, and maximize performance at work, in school, during recreation and in all other areas of life. The department is nationally and regionally recognized as a leader in advancing the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as the subspecialties of pediatric rehabilitation, pain management and spinal cord injury medicine.
